Molly Crockett is a professor in the Department of Psychology and the Center for Human Values at Princeton University. Prior to joining Princeton, Crockett was an Associate Professor of Psychology at Yale University and Associate Professor of Experimental Psychology at the University of Oxford. Crockett’s lab studies relationships between self and society, power and knowledge, technology and culture. Their work integrates theory and methods from psychology, computational neuroscience, behavioral economics, philosophy, science and technology studies, and data science, using a variety of methods including experiments in the lab and online, field studies, computational modeling, and machine learning. Currently, the lab is investigating how technologies marketed as “artificial intelligence” reinforce existing social inequalities and power structures. Crockett has presented their research to His Holiness the Dalai Lama, the UK’s House of Lords, and the World Economic Forum; published more than 140 peer-reviewed articles in journals including Nature, Science, Science Advances, Nature Communications, and PNAS; and has received career awards from the Society for Neuroeconomics, Society for Personality and Social Psychology, Society for Social Neuroscience, Society for Judgment and Decision-Making, American Psychological Association, Association for Psychological Science, and the U.S. National Academy of Sciences.
